Why Good Stewards?
Good Stewards, like most charities, started small and meager. Four years ago, we had a very simple idea: Because we are so richly blessed, we feel called to give back to those who are not as fortunate. We didn’t know what that would look like, but we knew we were being called to move in some way. God has blessed us with healthy children, strong families, and valuable friendships. However, we knew that so many people were burdened with sick children, broken homes, and lost families. So, we prayed, listened, heard, and obeyed God, our Giver and our Healer.
Our first year, we decided to raise funds for the Wounded Warrior Project and totaled only $1,300; our second year, we raised money for the Akron Children’s Burn Unit and almost doubled our total to $2,200; our third year and fourth years, we raised funds for the Akron Children’s Blood and Cancer Fund and again doubled our totals earning $4,000 and $6,000 respectively. God had His hand in every project and every effort, and because of Him, we have accomplished things we never thought possible.
Our foundation’s concept is based on the parable in the Gospels, “Jesus Feeds the Five Thousand.” Jesus took five loaves of bread and two fish and, giving thanks, fed 5,000 men, women, and children. All ate and were satisfied with 12 basketfuls left over. Matthew 13: 19 describes, “Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people” (NIV). Likewise, God has given us gifts and blessings that we want to give to the people. We are his vessels, and He will multiply our meager and minimal efforts to satisfy His people. The song, “Just One Drop” by Plumb sums up what we are all about. Listen to the message: http://www.songlyrics.com/plumb/one-drop-lyrics/
